Aberystwyth visitor guide

Most visitors arrive by train into Aberystwyth, or by car on the A44. Cardiff Airport means a long road transfer — pre-book private hire with luggage space; term-time and August both add time.

The station to the promenade and pier is a short hop.

The centre is compact; Penglais campus is a steep climb. Hackney carriages use the Ceredigion meter — the same table as New Quay, Aberaeron and Borth, not a second fare.

Promenade, pier and town-centre independents. Term-time Thursday–Saturday evenings differ from August seafront. FSA hygiene ratings run 0–5 — search the venue on food.gov.uk before you book.

Many cafes close by mid-afternoon. New Quay is the harbour sitting, not this front.

Promenade hotels and town guest houses. Confirm breakfast, parking and cancellation on the venue's own site. August fills the front; term-start weekends fill town rooms.

Cottages and camping may sit toward Borth — confirm whether you are actually on this promenade.

Gas Safe before any gas or boiler work. Electrical jobs should leave a certificate. Highway skips on a public road need a Ceredigion licence — £102.00 for up to 28 days on the street-works page, 10 days' notice.

Get scope and price in writing before walls open, especially on promenade terraces.

The promenade, pier, Constitution Hill cliff railway and the National Library are the core. New Quay boat trips and Aberaeron's coloured harbour are day trips on the same taxi table. This town is not that harbour product.

Walk the promenade and pier, take the cliff railway if it is running, eat once with a checkable FSA rating, and sleep on the front if you can. Leave Sunday without treating New Quay or Borth as this page.
