How Bargoed works
Bargoed visitor guide
Bargoed is a Rhymney valley town with a viaduct and high street — Caerphilly CBC taxi table shared with Blackwood. This guide covers how you arrive, eat, stay and get practical help — then links into the full pillar pages.
Getting here
Most visitors arrive by train into Bargoed, or by car. Cardiff Airport is closer than Manchester for most flights — pre-book private hire with luggage space.
The station to the high street is a short hop.
Getting around
The high street, viaduct and station sit a short hop from each other. Hackney carriages use the Caerphilly CBC meter — the same table as Blackwood, not a second fare.
Private hire must be pre-booked with a price agreed when you book — see the Bargoed tariff page.
Eat
Viaduct and high-street independents. Saturday fills the centre. FSA hygiene ratings run 0–5 — search the venue on food.gov.uk before you book.
Many cafes close by mid-afternoon. Blackwood is the Sirhowy shopping sitting, not this viaduct town.
Stay
Viaduct-town hotels. Confirm breakfast, parking and cancellation on the venue's own site. Saturday fills the streets.
Blackwood Sirhowy rooms are a different product on the same taxi table.
If something breaks
Gas Safe before any gas or boiler work. Electrical jobs should leave a certificate. Highway skips on a public road need a Caerphilly CBC licence — £28.39 on the licence-fees page.
Get scope and price in writing before walls open, especially on viaduct-edge streets.
Do
The viaduct, high street and station are the core. Blackwood is a day trip on the same taxi table. This town is not a beach.
If you only have a weekend
Walk the viaduct and high street, eat once with a checkable FSA rating, and sleep in town if you can. Leave Sunday without treating Blackwood as this page.
