Barmouth visitor guide

Abermaw

Barmouth (Abermaw) is the Mawddach-mouth seaside town — Gwynedd taxi table; railway bridge and beach, mountain walks start here too. This guide covers how you arrive, eat, stay and get practical help — then links into the full pillar pages.

Tariff 1 flag £3.00 — about £6.00 for 2 miles (daytime). Official Barmouth taxi fares

Getting here

Most visitors arrive by train into Barmouth, or by car. Manchester and Liverpool airports are closer than Cardiff for most flights — pre-book private hire with luggage space.

The station to the promenade and harbour is a short hop.

Getting around

The promenade, harbour and station sit a short hop from each other. Hackney carriages use the Gwynedd meter.

Private hire must be pre-booked with a price agreed when you book — see the Barmouth tariff page.

Eat

Promenade and harbour independents. Summer fills the town. FSA hygiene ratings run 0–5 — search the venue on food.gov.uk before you book.

Many cafes close by mid-afternoon. Dolgellau is the stone-town sitting, not this beach.

Stay

Promenade hotels and B&Bs. Book summer. Confirm breakfast, parking and cancellation on the venue's own site.

Dolgellau stone-town rooms are a different product on a different taxi table.

If something breaks

Gas Safe before any gas or boiler work. Electrical jobs should leave a certificate. Highway skips on a public road need a Gwynedd permit — £74 for up to 1 month on the skip page. The skip-hire shortlist is still empty.

Get scope and price in writing before walls open, especially on promenade streets.

Do

The promenade, railway bridge and mountain-walk start are the core. Dolgellau is a day trip on a different taxi table.

If you only have a weekend

Walk the bridge and beach, eat once with a checkable FSA rating, and sleep in town if you can. Leave Sunday without treating Dolgellau as this page.
