How Brynmawr works
Brynmawr visitor guide
Brynmawr sits high on the Heads of the Valleys road — a small market-square town, Blaenau Gwent taxi table, not a coastal stop. This guide covers how you arrive, eat, stay and get practical help — then links into the full pillar pages.
Getting here
Most visitors arrive by car on the A465. Cardiff Airport is closer than Manchester for most flights — pre-book private hire with luggage space.
The market square to the A465 edge is a short hop.
Getting around
The centre is compact; the square sits a short walk from the A465 edge. Hackney carriages use the Blaenau Gwent meter — the same table as Tredegar and Ebbw Vale, not a second fare.
Private hire must be pre-booked with a price agreed when you book — see the Brynmawr tariff page.
Eat
Market-square independents. Saturday fills the square. FSA hygiene ratings run 0–5 — search the venue on food.gov.uk before you book.
Many cafes close by mid-afternoon. Tredegar is the clock sitting, not this high square.
Stay
Town hotels. Confirm breakfast, parking and cancellation on the venue's own site. Saturday fills the square.
Tredegar clock-street rooms are a different product on the same taxi table.
If something breaks
Gas Safe before any gas or boiler work. Electrical jobs should leave a certificate. Highway skips on a public road need a Blaenau Gwent permit — confirm the current fee with the skip company; we have not found a dated published pound figure.
Get scope and price in writing before walls open, especially on hillside streets.
Do
The market square and hillside walks are the core. Tredegar's clock and Ebbw Vale's Works are day trips on the same taxi table. This town is not the coast.
If you only have a weekend
Walk the market square, eat once with a checkable FSA rating, and sleep in town if you can. Leave Sunday without treating Tredegar or Ebbw Vale as this page.
