How Caerleon works
Caerleon visitor guide
Caerleon
Caerleon is Newport’s Roman fortress suburb — amphitheatre and baths, same Newport City Council taxi table as the city, not a separate fare. This guide covers how you arrive, eat, stay and get practical help — then links into the full pillar pages.
Getting here
Most visitors arrive by car from Newport or by bus. Cardiff Airport is closer than Manchester for most flights — pre-book private hire with luggage space.
The village to Newport station is a short drive.
Getting around
The amphitheatre and baths sit a short hop from the village. Hackney carriages use the Newport meter — same table as the city, a different hop.
Private hire must be pre-booked with a price agreed when you book — see the Caerleon tariff page.
Eat
Village independents. FSA hygiene ratings run 0–5 — search the venue on food.gov.uk before you book.
Many cafes close by mid-afternoon. Newport city is a different sitting on the same taxi table.
Stay
Village hotels. Confirm breakfast, parking and cancellation on the venue's own site. Saturday fills the streets.
Newport city rooms are a different product on the same taxi table.
If something breaks
Gas Safe before any gas or boiler work. Electrical jobs should leave a certificate. Highway skips on a public road need a Newport permit — £63.63 for 14 days on the skips page.
Get scope and price in writing before walls open, especially on village streets.
Do
The amphitheatre, baths and village hop are the core. Newport city is a day trip on the same taxi table.
If you only have a weekend
Walk the amphitheatre and baths, eat once with a checkable FSA rating, and sleep in the village if you can. Leave Sunday without treating Newport city as this page.
