How Fishguard works
Fishguard visitor guide
Abergwaun
Fishguard (Abergwaun) is the north-Pembrokeshire harbour town — Lower Town and the square; the ferry sails from Goodwick next door. This guide covers how you arrive, eat, stay and get practical help — then links into the full pillar pages.
Getting here
Most visitors arrive by car, or by train into Fishguard & Goodwick. Cardiff Airport is a long road transfer — pre-book private hire with luggage space.
The square to Lower Town is a short hop; the ferry terminal is Goodwick next door.
Getting around
The square and Lower Town sit a short hop from each other. Hackney carriages use the Pembrokeshire meter — the same table as Tenby and Goodwick, not a second fare.
Private hire must be pre-booked with a price agreed when you book — see the Fishguard tariff page.
Eat
Square and Lower Town independents. Saturday fills the square. FSA hygiene ratings run 0–5 — search the venue on food.gov.uk before you book.
Many cafes close by mid-afternoon. Tenby is the walled sitting; the ferry plate is Goodwick.
Stay
Harbour-town hotels. Confirm breakfast, parking and cancellation on the venue's own site. Saturday fills the square.
Tenby walled rooms are a different product on the same taxi table. Ferry rooms are Goodwick.
If something breaks
Gas Safe before any gas or boiler work. Electrical jobs should leave a certificate. Highway skips on a public road need a Pembrokeshire permit — £61.50 per month or part on the street-works schedule.
Get scope and price in writing before walls open, especially on Lower Town streets.
Do
The square, Lower Town and the hop to Goodwick ferry are the core. Tenby's walls are a day trip on the same taxi table.
If you only have a weekend
Walk the square and Lower Town, eat once with a checkable FSA rating, and sleep in town if you can. Leave Sunday without treating Tenby or Goodwick as this page.
