How Holywell works
Holywell visitor guide
Treffynnon
Holywell (Treffynnon) is the pilgrimage town of St Winefride's Well — Flintshire taxi table; hillside streets, not the Prestatyn shore. This guide covers how you arrive, eat, stay and get practical help — then links into the full pillar pages.
Getting here
Most visitors arrive by car. Manchester and Liverpool airports are closer than Cardiff for most flights — pre-book private hire with luggage space.
The high street to the well is a short hop.
Getting around
The high street, well and Greenfield sit a short hop from each other. Hackney carriages use the Flintshire meter — the same table as Mold, not a second fare.
Private hire must be pre-booked with a price agreed when you book — see the Holywell tariff page.
Eat
High-street and well independents. Saturday fills the town. FSA hygiene ratings run 0–5 — search the venue on food.gov.uk before you book.
Many cafes close by mid-afternoon. Prestatyn is the shore sitting, not this pilgrimage town.
Stay
Hillside hotels. Confirm breakfast, parking and cancellation on the venue's own site. Saturday fills the streets.
Prestatyn shore rooms are a different product on a different taxi table.
If something breaks
Gas Safe before any gas or boiler work. Electrical jobs should leave a certificate. Highway skips on a public road need a Flintshire permit — £60 for the first week on the skip-permit page.
Get scope and price in writing before walls open, especially on hillside streets.
Do
St Winefride's Well, the high street and Greenfield are the core. This town is not the Prestatyn shore.
If you only have a weekend
Walk the well and high street, eat once with a checkable FSA rating, and sleep in town if you can. Leave Sunday without treating Prestatyn as this page.
