How Maesteg works
Maesteg visitor guide
Maesteg is the Llynfi valley town — Bridgend taxi table shared with Porthcawl, but this is a valley high street, not a beach. This guide covers how you arrive, eat, stay and get practical help — then links into the full pillar pages.
Getting here
Most visitors arrive by train into Maesteg, or by car. Cardiff Airport is closer than Manchester for most flights — pre-book private hire with luggage space.
The station to the high street is a short hop.
Getting around
The high street and station sit a short hop from each other. Hackney carriages use the Bridgend meter — the same table as Porthcawl, not a second fare.
Private hire must be pre-booked with a price agreed when you book — see the Maesteg tariff page.
Eat
Llynfi high-street independents. Saturday fills the centre. FSA hygiene ratings run 0–5 — search the venue on food.gov.uk before you book.
Many cafes close by mid-afternoon. Porthcawl is the Rest Bay sitting, not this valley.
Stay
Llynfi high-street hotels. Confirm breakfast, parking and cancellation on the venue's own site. Saturday fills the streets.
Porthcawl beach rooms are a different product on the same taxi table.
If something breaks
Gas Safe before any gas or boiler work. Electrical jobs should leave a certificate. Highway skips on a public road need a Bridgend licence — only legitimate contractors may apply.
Get scope and price in writing before walls open, especially on hillside streets.
Do
The high street and station are the core. Porthcawl is a day trip on the same taxi table. This town is not a beach.
If you only have a weekend
Walk the high street, eat once with a checkable FSA rating, and sleep in town if you can. Leave Sunday without treating Porthcawl as this page.
