Getting here
Most visitors arrive by train into Merthyr, or by car on the A465. Cardiff Airport is closer than Manchester for most flights — pre-book private hire with luggage space.
The station to the centre is a short hop; hills add time.
Getting around
The high street, station and Cyfarthfa sit a short hop from each other, with hillside streets above. Hackney carriages use Merthyr's own meter — not the RCT table next door at Pontypridd.

Eat
High-street and Cyfarthfa independents. Saturday fills the centre. FSA hygiene ratings run 0–5 — search the venue on food.gov.uk before you book.
Many cafes close by mid-afternoon. Pontypridd is the Taff sitting on RCT, not this own-table town.
Stay
Valley hotels. Confirm breakfast, parking and cancellation on the venue's own site. Saturday fills the streets.
Pontypridd rooms are a different product on a different taxi table.
If something breaks
Gas Safe before any gas or boiler work. Electrical jobs should leave a certificate. Highway skips on a public road need a Merthyr permit — £44 for 14 days on the builders-skips page.
Get scope and price in writing before walls open, especially on hillside streets.
Do
Cyfarthfa, the high street and hillside walks are the core. Pontypridd is a day trip on RCT next door. This town is not the coast.

Walk Cyfarthfa and the high street, eat once with a checkable FSA rating, and sleep in town if you can. Leave Sunday without treating Pontypridd or Tredegar as this page.
