How Mold works

Mold visitor guide

Y Wyddgrug

Mold (Y Wyddgrug) is Flintshire's county town — market and theatre, same taxi table as Flint, not Rhyl's promenade and not a Dee-estuary castle town. This guide covers how you arrive, eat, stay and get practical help — then links into the full pillar pages.

Tariff 1 flag £3.10 — about £5.80 for 2 miles (daytime). Official Mold taxi fares

Getting here

Most visitors arrive by car on the A494, or by bus into Mold. There is no town rail station — Flint and Chester are the usual rail heads, then a taxi or bus. Manchester and Liverpool airports are closer than Cardiff for most flights — pre-book private hire.

The town hall / market to the bus station is a short hop.

Getting around

The centre is compact; Bailey Hill and Theatr Clwyd are a climb. Hackney carriages use the Flintshire meter — the same table as Flint, Buckley and Holywell, not a second fare.

Private hire must be pre-booked with a price agreed when you book — see the Mold tariff page.

Eat

Market and theatre independents. Show nights fill tables. FSA hygiene ratings run 0–5 — search the venue on food.gov.uk before you book.

Many cafes close by mid-afternoon. Flint is the estuary sitting, not this high street.

Stay

County-town hotels for market and theatre nights. Confirm breakfast, parking and cancellation on the venue's own site.

Camping may sit in inland Flintshire — this is not a north-coast cottage strip.

Stay in Mold →

If something breaks

Gas Safe before any gas or boiler work. Electrical jobs should leave a certificate. Highway skips on a public road need a Flintshire permit — £60 for the first week, then £25 per subsequent week, 48 hours' notice.

Get scope and price in writing before walls open, especially on Bailey Hill access.

Do

Bailey Hill, the market town and Theatr Clwyd are the core. Show times live on the theatre's own site. Flint castle is a Dee-estuary day on the same taxi table. This is not a beach.

Things to do in Mold →

If you only have a weekend

Walk Bailey Hill, catch a show if Theatr Clwyd is on, eat once with a checkable FSA rating, and sleep in town if you can. Leave Sunday without treating Flint or Rhyl as this page.
