How Tredegar works

Tredegar visitor guide

Tredegar is a Heads of the Valleys town on the Sirhowy — compact high street and town clock, Blaenau Gwent taxi table shared with Ebbw Vale, not the Works site and not a beach. This guide covers how you arrive, eat, stay and get practical help — then links into the full pillar pages.

Tariff 1 flag £4.00 — about £6.40 for 2 miles (daytime). Official Tredegar taxi fares

Getting here

Most visitors arrive by car on the A4048 or A465, or by rail then a hop from Ebbw Vale Town. Cardiff Airport means a pre-booked private-hire run — the hackney table is not an airport quote, and there is no local airfield.

The town clock to the station / A4048 edge is a short hop.

Getting around

The high street is compact; hillside streets are steep. Hackney carriages use the Blaenau Gwent meter — the same table as Ebbw Vale, Brynmawr and Abertillery, not a second fare.

Private hire must be pre-booked with a price agreed when you book — see the Tredegar tariff page.

Eat

Clock and high-street independents. Sundays are thinner than Newport. FSA hygiene ratings run 0–5 — search the venue on food.gov.uk before you book.

Many cafes close by mid-afternoon. Ebbw Vale is the Works sitting, not this high street.

Stay

Valley hotels on the Sirhowy. Confirm breakfast, parking and cancellation on the venue's own site. Hillside streets are tight.

Cottages and camping may sit on the valley sides — this is not a coast stay.

If something breaks

Gas Safe before any gas or boiler work. Electrical jobs should leave a certificate. Highway skips on a public road need a Blaenau Gwent permit — the skip company applies; confirm the current fee with the operator.

Get scope and price in writing before walls open, especially on hillside access.

Do

The town clock and compact high street are the core. Ebbw Vale's Works site is a different valley day on the same taxi table. This is not a beach.

If you only have a weekend

Walk the clock and high street, eat once with a checkable FSA rating, and sleep in town if you can. Leave Sunday without treating Ebbw Vale or a seaside page as this one.
