What to know

restaurants in Barmouth

Barmouth (Abermaw) is the Mawddach-mouth seaside town — Gwynedd taxi table; railway bridge and beach, mountain walks start here too.

Where to eat

The Mermaid Fish Bar on Jubilee Road (01341 212101) has been operating since 1964 and was named in the *Times* top 10 UK chip shops — strong and slightly over-stewed tea from a metal pot, fresh battered cod, crisp chips; the owners explicitly resist gentrification and the old way remains the best way. Bistro Bermo on Church Street serves local seafood and Welsh produce in a relaxed bistro setting. The Last Inn near the Mawddach bridge is the characterful old pub at the south end of town — low beams, riverside setting, good for a pint after the trail.
