Allergen labelling in Wales (Natasha’s Law)

Food packed on the premises before you order it — PPDS — needs a full ingredients list in Wales, with the 14 allergens emphasised. That duty has applied since 1 October 2021.

If food is packed on the premises before you order — a boxed sandwich, a salad pot, a wrapped bake — Wales requires a full ingredients list with the 14 major allergens emphasised. That is not a café courtesy.

The Welsh regulations

The duty is in the Food Information (Wales) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2020. It has been in force since 1 October 2021. People call it Natasha’s Law. The Food Standards Agency publishes PPDS guidance for Wales alongside the other UK nations.

What you should see

  • The name of the food
  • A full ingredients list
  • The 14 allergens emphasised (bold is the usual method)
If you order from a counter and the food is packed after you ask, different allergen rules for non-prepacked food still apply — you can still ask. PPDS is the packed-before-sale gap the 2021 change closed.

Eating in

A plated Sunday lunch is not PPDS. Allergen information must still be available. See Sunday lunch in Wales.
