Booking activities in Wales: what to check first
Check season, tickets, fitness, tide and weather before you pay. Cadw and the National Trust are different bookings. Pen y Pass is pre-book in season. A deposit is not a weather guarantee.

A good day out in Wales fails less often on “which operator” than on season, tide, fitness, tickets, and weather. Check those before you pay a deposit.
Checklist
- Season and opening — coastal paths, castles, and boat trips all have quieter months.
- Fitness and kit — walks and water sports are not interchangeable.
- Tickets and capacity — popular sites sell out on bank holidays.
- Weather and cancellation — especially for open boats and outdoor adventure.
- Who is licensed or insured for the activity you want.
Cadw and National Trust
Castles and heritage sites sell timed tickets on cadw.gov.wales and nationaltrust.org.uk — book before you travel in peak summer. They are different organisations; see Cadw vs National Trust in Wales. For Snowdon, start with the Pen y Pass booking rule, not a path list.

Common questions
- Should I book Cadw tickets in advance?
- In peak summer, yes. Cadw sells timed tickets on cadw.gov.wales. National Trust is a different organisation with a different booking site.
- Can I turn up at Pen y Pass for Snowdon?
