A wallbox on a Welsh house is electrical installation work. Part P of the Building Regulations applies in Wales. “From £X fitted” on an ad is not a certificate.

How to stay legal

Either:

• Use an installer registered with a government-approved competent person scheme, who can self-certify, or
• Notify local-authority building control before the work if the installer cannot self-certify.

GOV.WALES building-regulations guidance treats new circuits and outdoor electrical work as the sort of job that is notifiable. An EV charge point is a new circuit in practice. Follow BS 7671 and the current IET Code of Practice for EV charging equipment.

Paperwork

• Electrical Installation Certificate
• Building Regulations compliance certificate if a scheme installer notified the work

Landlords still need the five-year EICR for the dwelling. A new charger does not replace that report.
