What to know

camping in Betws-y-Coed

Betws-y-Coed is the Gwydir forest gateway at the confluence — Conwy taxi table; waterfalls and outdoor shops, not a coast.

Where to stay

Betws-y-Coed is the most popular overnight base for Snowdonia walkers and cyclists — and it shows in prices. Summer weekends book out weeks ahead, with a concentration of hotels and B&Bs along the A5 through the village. Waterloo Hotel and Royal Oak Hotel are the two main full-service hotels; both are central and have their own parking, which is important because village parking is limited.

The village has no supermarket — just a small Co-op. If you're self-catering or planning packed lunches for walks, bring your main provisions from Llandudno or Bangor rather than relying on the village shops.

Gwynedd's Visitor Levy consultation closed July 2026; the council announces its decision after 24 September 2026. If adopted, the earliest it could apply in Gwynedd is October 2027. No levy applies to stays now. Note: Betws-y-Coed is within Conwy CBC, not Gwynedd — Conwy's decision also comes after 24 September 2026, with the same potential October 2027 start.
