What to know
camping in Colwyn Bay
Colwyn Bay (Bae Colwyn) is the Victorian promenade town — Conwy taxi table; pier and Eirias, not Llandudno’s great Orme.
Where to stay
Colwyn Bay is a residential-feel town rather than a pure resort, which means accommodation tends to be cheaper than Llandudno for equivalent quality. B&Bs cluster around Princes Drive and the upper town. Rhos-on-Sea, technically part of the Colwyn Bay conurbation, has some quieter guesthouses overlooking its small sandy beach, which makes a pleasant alternative base to the busier Llandudno promenade.
One quirk: Colwyn Bay is on the main Holyhead rail line, so early-morning train noise is a factor for lighter sleepers — ask for rooms away from the railway side when booking seafront or near-station properties.
Conwy CBC's Visitor Levy consultation closed July 2026; the council announces its decision after 24 September 2026. If adopted, earliest implementation is October 2027. No levy currently applies.
