What to know
Things to do and walking
Castell Coch (Cadw; admission applies for interior; check winter hours 10am–4pm) is the fairytale Victorian Gothic castle designed by William Burges — one of the most visually distinctive buildings in Wales. Fforest Fawr surrounds the castle with four waymarked trails:
- Sir Henry's Trail (red, longest circular)
- Burges' Way (yellow, shortest loop from castle car park)
- Sculpture Discovery Trail (blue, from Fforest Fawr car park — farm animal sculptures, panoramic valley views)
- Three Bears Cave Walk (brown, passing old mine workings)
The Taff Trail long-distance path runs directly through Tongwynlais — Cardiff is 5 miles south, Brecon 50+ miles north.
