Six Nations in Cardiff: hotels and taxis
Source: Welsh Rugby Union · Checked: 2026-09-08 · Wales
Wales’ 2027 home Six Nations weekends at Principality Stadium are 20 February (Ireland) and 6 March (England, listed kick-off 16:40). The ground holds about 74,500 and sits on Westgate Street, a short walk from Cardiff Central. Confirm times on the WRU if the broadcaster moves kick-off.
The expensive mistake is buying the ticket first and the bed second.
The bed
Match weekends sell central rooms months ahead. Official hotel-and-ticket packages for 2027 were already on sale in September 2026. Gullivers, a WRU travel partner, listed a one-night Wales v Ireland package from £339 per person (Premier Inn Cardiff Bay) and two-night Wales v England city hotels from about £679–£779 per person sharing, with singles much higher. Those are package prices, not a floor for every room on Booking.com — but they show what “sold as a weekend” looks like.
If Cardiff is gone: Newport is the usual overflow on the train (about 15 minutes). Pontcanna and the Bay are walkable or a short ride; they are not immune to match-weekend rates.
Start from hotels in Cardiff for the knowledge page, then book the operator. Paying for a profile does not buy a shortlist place.
Getting in
Most people walk from the station. Park-and-ride is the council’s match-day answer if you insist on a car. Stadium car parks are not a casual option.
Getting out
After full time, Westgate Street is a crowd, not a taxi rank. A hackney from a proper rank (Cardiff Central is the usual one) runs on the council meter — flag £3.50, then tariff by time of day. Evening matches sit on Tariff 2 or 3. See how much is a taxi in Cardiff.
A private hire or app car must be pre-booked. The price is the quote on the screen, which can surge. A person with a laminated sign on the pavement is not the tariff.
If you are going back to Newport or the Bay, the train may be slower but more predictable than sitting in the meter in stalled traffic.
What to do with this page
Book the room when the fixtures land. Learn the meter vs quote distinction once. Open the Cardiff taxi table on the day for the dated extras (late night, extra passengers). Do not treat a package brochure as the city-wide hotel index.
Common questions
- When are the 2027 Wales home Six Nations matches?
- Wales v Ireland on Saturday 20 February 2027, and Wales v England on Saturday 6 March 2027 (kick-off listed 16:40). Confirm on the WRU if times move.
- Why are Cardiff hotels so expensive that weekend?
- The stadium holds about 74,500 and sits in the city centre. Match weekends sell rooms months ahead. Newport is the usual overflow on the train.
- Should I pre-book a taxi after the match?
- A hackney from a rank uses the meter under the council tariff. A private-hire or app car must be booked, and the price is a quote. Street touts are not the tariff.
