Camping and glamping in Porthmadog

Harbour pitches — this is the cob town, not a castle-headland park.

Camping from Porthmadog is hinterland and harbour-edge rather than a town-centre park — Criccieth is a different day on the same taxi table. We have not yet listed a verified camping shortlist for this town.

What to know

camping in Porthmadog

Porthmadog is the cob-and-harbour town at the Glaslyn — Gwynedd taxi table; Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland railways, not Tenby’s walled resort.

Where to stay

Porthmadog's accommodation sits at the junction of two remarkable travel experiences — the heritage railways. Guests travelling both the Ffestiniog (east into Snowdonia) and the Welsh Highland (north to Caernarfon) can do so by staying one or two nights here and building a grand circular railway tour. The Royal Sportsman Hotel (central) has long been the town's primary hotel. Guesthouses cluster on the quieter roads behind the high street.

Note that summer bank holiday weekends coincide with railway gala events, and the town fills very quickly — rooms in Porthmadog during a Ffestiniog Railway gala weekend need booking months ahead.
