What to know

Walking and outdoors

The Mynydd y Gwair Common above Gilfach Goch offers open hilltop walking on former coal-measure moorland with views across the Rhondda and Ogmore valleys. The Ogwr Ridgeway Walk long-distance route passes through the area, connecting the uplands between Bridgend and Pontypridd. The valley floor follow-the-stream walk (3 miles, Cwm Ogwr Fach) is an easy green outing through what was once a heavily industrialised colliery landscape, now largely revegetated.
