The Rhigos Mountain Road (highest classified road in Wales, 493 m) gives access to moorland walking across Mynydd Rhigos with views south across the Rhondda valley system. Waterfall Country (Ystradfellte, 8 miles southwest) has a circuit of five waterfalls including Sgwd Yr Eira, where the path passes behind the curtain of water. The Craig y Llyn viewpoint (2 miles from Hirwaun) gives one of the widest panoramas in the South Wales Valleys.
