What to know

Llandudno is the planned Victorian resort between two Ormes — Conwy taxi table; pier, promenade and cable car, not Conwy’s walled harbour.

Walking and outdoors

The Great Orme defines the town. Walk or take the historic cable-hauled Great Orme Tramway (the only remaining cable tramway in the UK after San Francisco) from its lower station near the pier to the summit; the Great Orme Cable Car offers an alternative descent. The summit has panoramic views across to Snowdonia, the Menai Strait and, on a clear day, to Ireland. The Marine Drive is a toll road looping around the headland — excellent for cycling. North Shore is the main beach, mostly pebble with sandy patches at low tide; West Shore is quieter, fully sandy and often uncrowded even on summer bank holidays — a local secret hiding in plain sight.

Venue Cymru on the promenade hosts a year-round events programme including musicals, comedians, and the North Wales International Piano Competition.
