What to know
Things to do
Llangammarch Wells owes its existence to a barium sulphate spring — reputedly the only such spring in Europe — discovered in the 19th century, which attracted Victorian spa visitors. The restored spa buildings remain as private cottages in the hotel grounds, and the Dolycoed Spring can still be located in the park (you can smell the sulphur before you see it). The village is a perfect quiet retreat within easy reach of the Elan Valley reservoirs (15 miles) and Brecon Beacons.
