The Llanharry Nature Reserve (2 miles north) is managed by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales and holds wet woodland, species-rich grassland and a notable population of great crested newts. The M4 Greenway cycling and walking route connects Llanharan to Bridgend and Pontyclun on quiet shared-use paths. The Taff Trail at Pontyclun (3 miles east) provides a traffic-free cycling and walking route north to Pontypridd and south toward Cardiff Bay.
