The Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk (27-mile circuit from Caerphilly) passes through Rhymney on its northern arc — the ridge section from Eglwysilan church to Senghenydd gives the first Brecon Beacons summit view. The Sirhowy Valley Country Park (8 miles east) has waymarked woodland and riverside trails. The Brecon Beacons southern escarpment (Torpantau, 10 miles northwest) is accessible by car from Rhymney, with the Talybont Reservoir walk and Pen y Fan routes within reach.
