Things to do
Senghenydd is the site of Britain's worst mining disaster. On 14 October 1913, an underground explosion at the Universal Colliery killed 439 men and boys — the single greatest loss of life in UK mining history. The Aber Valley Heritage Museum (within Senghenydd Community Centre) tells the story of the disaster and the wider community through photographs, artefacts and personal testimonies. The Senghenydd Colliery Memorial Garden provides a quiet space for reflection. The Aber Valley Male Voice Choir (est. 1959) performs locally and internationally.
