What to know

Walking and outdoors

The Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk section from Senghenydd north to the Senghenydd Dyke ridgeline (4 miles return) gives the first clear view of Pen y Fan and Corn Du above the Brecon Beacons on a clear day. The Aber Valley floor walk (3 miles, Senghenydd to Abertridwr) passes the sites of former colliery infrastructure now reclaimed by grass and woodland. The Caerphilly Mountain (7 miles south) provides a short but dramatic ridgeline walk above the town.
