## Holyhead taxi fares
Holyhead (Caergybi) is the Irish-ferry port on Holy Island — Isle of Anglesey taxi table; terminal, breakwater and station, not a quiet sailing village.
## Getting around by taxi
Holyhead is an Irish ferry port first and a tourist destination second — its taxi dynamics reflect this. AAA Taxis (01407 761000 / 761000 / 741741) and Holyhead Taxis (01407 762020 / 764046) are the main local operators. Anglesey Cabs (07745 506424) and AK Taxis (01407 760090) cover the area too. Crucially: Uber does not operate in Holyhead — a fact that catches app-dependent visitors entirely off guard.
For cruise ship visitors: the berth is on a restricted commercial pier. A free shuttle bus runs continuously on cruise-call days from the berth to the Celtic Gateway Bridge (town side). Taxis and private vehicles cannot access the berth itself — tell your driver to wait at the town side of the Celtic Gateway Bridge, not at the port entrance. Taxis are limited in number on major cruise days, so pre-booking excursions to Beaumaris, Caernarfon, or South Stack is essential.
For ferry passengers arriving from Ireland (Irish Ferries, Stena Line), taxis meet at the terminal exit and can take you directly to Holyhead station (5-minute walk, but useful with luggage); the Transport for Wales Holyhead→Bangor train then connects you to the mainland.
## What to check
From Holyhead station to the ferry terminal. Hackney tariff vs private hire; the meter is the council maximum, not an app quote.

| Type | Typical cost | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| Metered hackney | This table | Rank or hail; tariff applies |
| Pre-booked private hire | Agreed when booking | Airport runs, accounts, apps — still licensed |
A guide to the official hackney-carriage maximum tariff, not a quote. Private hire vehicles are licensed, but they generally do not use this council tariff — agree the price when you book.
This page republishes the licensing council’s hackney maximum. It is not a private-hire quote.
