Walking and mountain leaders near Taffs Well

Village and Garth — castle is Tongwynlais.

Taff's Well walking means the village, station and Garth hop — Saturday footfall; Tongwynlais is a different walk on a different taxi table, and this is not a spa.

What to know

Walking and outdoors

The Taff Trail through Taffs Well (section: Tongwynlais to Pontypridd, 9 miles, flat riverside) is the easiest traffic-free cycling and walking route in the valleys. Castell Coch (1 mile south) has woodland trails through the forested hillside above the castle that can be combined into a 3-mile loop from Taffs Well village. The Garth Hill walk (3 miles north) rises to 307 m above the valley — the real-life inspiration for the *Englishman Who Went Up a Hill* film.
