Conwy Castle: Cadw, not the cable car

Conwy Castle is a Cadw site. From 1 September 2026 an adult ticket is £12.90 for the castle alone, or £16.30 if you take the joint ticket. It is not included in a Great Orme tram or cable car ticket.

Conwy Castle is a Cadw site. The Great Orme tram and cable car are rides in Llandudno. A ticket for one does not open the other.

The castle price

On Cadw’s page for Castell Conwy, checked 8 September 2026:

  • Adult, castle alone, 1 September 2026 to 31 March 2027 — £12.90.
  • Summer 2026 (1 June to 31 August) — £13.50 for that same single-location adult ticket.
  • Joint ticket — Cadw lists a higher combined price, £16.30 in the winter band. Check whether that day includes the town walls. Do not assume a castle-only ticket covers the wall walk.
Cadw members enter free. Book on cadw.gov.wales. Timed entry is common in busy weeks.

The cable car is a different day

The Great Orme tram and cable car sit above Llandudno, a few miles from the castle. They are not Cadw. See Llandudno: the Great Orme tram and cable car for those rides. A day that starts on the Orme and “nips to the castle” needs two tickets and the time to move between them.

National Trust membership does not open Conwy Castle. Cadw and the National Trust are different organisations. See Cadw vs National Trust.

The town

The castle is in Conwy, inside the walls, not at the Llandudno pier. Parking in the town and parking for the Orme are not the same bay. A taxi between the two is a local fare or a pre-booked car — agree it if it is private hire. It is not included in either ticket.

What to check on the day

Opening times change with the season. Last entry is earlier than closing. If you only want a photograph of the walls from the quay, you do not need a castle ticket. If you want to go in, buy the Cadw ticket.

How long to allow

The castle and the Great Orme are not a single stop. Allow the visit inside the walls, then the drive or the bus to Llandudno, then the queue for the tram or the cable car. Doing both on a tight afternoon is how people miss last entry at one of them.

Check whether your Cadw ticket is castle-only or the joint castle-and-walls price before you walk the town wall. The wall is a separate experience and, on some tickets, a separate charge. Members still enter Cadw sites free. That does not include the Orme rides.

If the castle is sold out online, do not assume the quay photograph is a failed day. The town, the walls from outside, and the Conwy guide are still there. The cable car will not stamp your Cadw booking. Allow the time between Conwy and the Orme, or pick one ticket for the day.

Common questions

Does a Llandudno cable car ticket get me into Conwy Castle?
No. The tram and cable car are rides on the Great Orme. Conwy Castle is Cadw, a few miles away, with its own ticket.
How much is Conwy Castle in September 2026?
Cadw lists an adult single-location price of £12.90 from 1 September 2026 to 31 March 2027. June to August 2026 was £13.50. Members enter free. Book on cadw.gov.wales.
Is the town wall the same ticket as the castle?
Check Cadw on the day. Some visits sell a joint castle-and-walls ticket. Do not assume the wall walk is included in a castle-only ticket.
